Four Essentials

The spiritual life in Christ is an inner process of gradual transformation of consciousness and behavior based on a faith relationship with God in Jesus. The constant witness of tradition and personal experience demonstrate that, in one form or another, there are four essential practices through which the transformation into the image of Christ takes place. These personal spiritual practices presuppose that the seeker is living as a responsible participating member of a church community.

The Jesus Prayer
This practice of the "prayer of the heart" will be presented as an embodiment at the level of devotional practice, of the all-pervasive and all-encompassing personal relationship with Jesus at the mystical level of being. Read More.

Lectio Divina
A study of this classical condition. A very ancient art, practiced at one time by all Christians, is the technique known as lectio divina - a slow, contemplative praying of the Scriptures which enables the Bible, the Word of God, to become a means of union with God. Read More.

Discernment
Both the physical world and the spiritual world enter human experience only as they are thought by a person. "Discernment of thoughts" is the inner pathfinder for our spiritual journey and the final arbiter of every good act of the graced human will. Read More.

Spiritual Direction
Also called: Mentoring, Spiritual Friendship, and Discipleship, it is formed when one Christian asks another to serve as "spiritual elder", or "companion" in Christ. We will study the components, structure, dynamics, and goal of this relationship in the Spirit. Read More.
